Who we are

The Ramble is a thoughtfully planned community created by Biltmore Farms

Originally acquired by George W. Vanderbilt, this expansive landscape became his cherished walking retreat. The Ramble draws inspiration from the design and conservation principles employed by Frederick Law Olmsted in his Biltmore Forest and estate plans.

Our Founder

George W. Vanderbilt, created Biltmore Farms in 1897

Our founder, George W. Vanderbilt, originally created Biltmore Farms in 1897 to beautify the grounds of his famed Estate. The company has continued to expand in ways his vision foresaw. Biltmore Forest was its first residential development, and now Biltmore Farms has become one of the most preeminent community development and hospitality firms today.

A Rich History

George W. Vanderbilt founded one of the most successful dairy operations in the Southeast

In the midst of the construction of Biltmore House, in 1897, George W. Vanderbilt founded Biltmore Dairy Farms. Originally intended to support his estate and test innovative agricultural theories, the venture evolved into a large-scale commercial operation. By the mid-1900s, Biltmore Farms had become a major supplier of milk and ice cream for five southeastern states.
